SHONCHALON
A wearable for real-time exercise recognition in post-stroke rehabilitation
SHONCHALON is a low-cost wearable that recognizes upper-limb rehabilitation exercises in real time and gives feedback on whether they are performed correctly, so stroke survivors can practice safely at home.
What I built and analyzed (June 2024 – October 2025)
- A wearable using an ESP32-BLE and an ICM20948 9-axis IMU (accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer)
- Monitoring of five essential rehabilitation exercises
- A custom Android application connected over Bluetooth for real-time 5 Hz data logging
- Analysis of the motion data to recognize exercises and assess the correctness of hand movements
Output: SHONCHALON: A Wearable for Real-Time Multi-Class Exercise Recognition and Feedback in Post-Stroke Upper-Limb Rehabilitation (co-author), under review at IEEE PerCom 2027.
